Stereograph made from only one photo
Have you ever thought to see the picture you've taken stereoscopically? Usually for that purpose you should prepare two pictures for the object taken from different positions. However this software can create the stereographic image from only one picture!

The principle is rather simple. As shown in the following figure, when the focus is set to the disc (A) which is the closest to the camera, then the images of other discs (B) and (C) which are distant from the camera are dim. Or when the focus is set as infinity, more distant from the camera, more complex appearance the object has as shown in the figures of airplane (A) - close, (B) - middle, and (c) - far.

Therefore sliding the discs and airplanes (A), (B) and (C) horizontally according to their extent of dimness or complexity, we get the virtual stereograph as,

(This stereograph is for parallel eyes view. To see the above picture stereoscopically, please gaze the center of picture with focusing behind the screen. About stereograph, please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereograph.)

The software Stereographer creates the stereoscopic image from the original picture based on the principle described above. The following example of stereograph is for the famous picture "Shroud of Turin".

On the above pictures, the left one is original picture and the right one is the virtually created stereoscopic image. As another example, the following synthesized stereograph is for image taken at San Diego Fireworks Show.

For other examples, please visit Gallery I (astronomy I), II (astronomy II), III (microscopic objects), IV (minerals), V (X-ray), VI (MRI), and VII (miscellaneous).

You can create your original stereograph with Stereographer from digital images stored in your computer. The trial version is available for Windows 95/98/2000/XP/NT. It is very easy to use Stereographer. There are only two parameters in the software to be tuned for individual pictures. One is for the depth of focus and another one is for the degree of slide. If you feel the picture obtained from Stereographer using pre-set parameters is hard to see stereoscopically or feel tax on your eyes, please tune the parameters within the suggested ranges so as to feel better.

With Stereographer, enjoy your original stereograph!
