FerFT ver. 9.6 trial Manual
FerFT is the software that has the following functions;
Monitor input signals - Monitor through microphone and display the wave form of the input signals
Fourier analysis on the input signals - Calculate power spectrum with various frequency intervals
Filter - Modify spectrum and regenerate signals from that spectrum
(This is a trial version of FerFT. For detail of unrestricted version, please visit the product site: FerFT - Real Time Fourier Analyzer.)
1. Components
- ferft.jar
- manual-t.htm (this text)
2. Environments
OS: Java 1.5 or later implemented
3. Getting Start
1) Make microphone on the system available.
2) Double click ferft.jar.
3) Click the button "Capture". Then the sampling begins. Input signals from microphone are monitored and displayed on the top panel. On the middle panel the corresponding power spectrum is shown. The bottom panel shows the wave form of regenerated signals.
4) To stop monitoring, click the button "Stop".
4. Facilities
Spectrum Filter (button: "Filter 1")
Modify the intensity of spectrum per frequency range (total available frequency ranges: 10 (- trial version: 3))
- Frequency Range: Selected frequency range (Hz)
- Multiplier: Factor multiplied to the values of spectrum in the frequency range mentioned above
Spectrum Filter (part 2) (button: "Filter 2")
Set threshold for the filter. The number n in the textbox corresponds to the threshold expressed as 10n and indicated with a red horizontal line. Any frequency spectrum which has the power below that threshold value (shown with red color in the middle panel) is neglected on the regenerated signals.
Specify the frequency range (button: "Set Range")
Set the frequency range in which Fourier transform is carried out. Using this facility you can retrieve detailed information of spectrum in a narrow range.
Sound for regenerated input signals which were synthesized from the filtered spectrum
Save displayed figures (button: "Save Image")
Save monitored signals / power spectrum / regenerated signals with png format
Save digital data (button: "Save Data")
Save monitored signals / power spectrum / regenerated signals with text format (- trial version: not available)
Save regenerated signals (button: "Save Mod.Sound")
Save regenerated signals with wav format (- trial version: not available)
Select scale type of spectrum (radio buttons: "linear"/"log" on "Spectrum Scale")
- linear: Linear scaling applied for showing intensity of spectrum
- log: Logarithm scaling applied for showing intensity of spectrum
Select accumulation manner (radio buttons: "single"/"accum." on "Transformation")
- single: Does not accumulate spectrum. The spectrum shown in the middle panel corresponds to the input signals shown in the top panel for each iteration.
- accum.: Accumulate spectrum. The spectrum shown in the middle panel does not correspond to the input signals shown in the top panel, but to the accumulated input signals through the past iterations.
5. Parameters
Sample No.
No. of sampling points for the figure shown in the top panel
Frequency No.
No. of frequency points for the figure shown in the middle panel
Signal.Fact
Scaling factor for the top panel
Spectrum.Fact
Scaling factor for the middle panel
Recov.Fact
Factor for the regenerated signals
Sample Rate
Sampling rate for input signals. Sampling time per iteration satisfies the following equation;
[sampling time (sec.)] = [Sample No.] / [Sample Rate]
Sample Size
Bit numbers required for one sampling data
Channel
Channel for input signal used by system
Sound Mixer
Application software for dealing with sound data
Caution: Selecting improper sound mixer may cause error and terminate the application.
